Royal Bank of Scotland, Tomkins: U.K., Irish Stock Preview

The following stocks may rise or fall in U.K. and Irish markets today. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are from yesterday's market close.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index added 49.70, or 0.8 percent, to 6300.30. The FTSE All-Share Index rose 23.20, or 0.7 percent, to 3258.33.

Ireland's ISEQ Index advanced 212.72, or 2.5 percent, to 8694.84.

U.K. Companies:

Anglo American Plc (AAL LN): The world's second-biggest mining company may say first-half profit climbed 18 percent to a record after gains in the price of platinum and the metals needed by China's expanding economy.

Separately, the Financial Times reported, without citing anyone, that the company will put the building-materials company Tarmac Plc up for sale, possibly attracting offers of 6 billion or more. The shares fell 29 pence, or 1 percent, to 2,769.

British Airways Plc (BAY LN): Europe's third-largest airline, will probably say fiscal first-quarter profit rose 4.4 percent, according to the median estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News. The stock added 17.5 pence, or 4.5 percent, to 403.75.

Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc (RBS LN): The U.K. bank leading a takeover bid for ABN Amro Holding NV will probably say first-half profit increased on gains in its consumer-banking and securities divisions. The shares 12.5 pence, or 2.2 percent, to 591.5.

Tomkins Plc (TOMK LN): The world's biggest maker of timing belts and replacement wiper blades may say second-quarter profit declined 12 percent. The stock rose 4 pence, or 1.8 percent, to 232.
