The following is a list of companies whose shares may have unusual price changes in U.S. exchanges tomorrow. This preview includes news that broke after exchanges closed. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names.
Apple Inc. (AAPL US) shares rose as much as $1.62, or 1.3 percent, to $123.66 in extended trading. The U.S. debut of the iPhone drew thousands of shoppers over the weekend, emptying most of AT&T Inc.'s inventory and causing network glitches as the flood of customers began activating the device. Shoppers snapped up as many as 200,000 iPhones the first day after the device went on sale June 29, according to Global Equities Research.
Discover Financial Services (DFS-W US): Shares of the credit-card provider may fall to $22 each as the company struggles to gain acceptance with merchants, Barron's reported, citing Craig Maurer, an analyst with Calyon Securities USA Inc. in New York. The shares, which are trading on a when-issued basis, fell $1 to $28.50 on June 29.
Dobson Communications Corp. (DCEL US) jumped $2.39, or 22 percent, to $13.50 in extra trading after exchanges closed. AT&T Inc. (T US) agreed to acquire Dobson, a wireless carrier, for about $2.8 billion.
DTE Energy Inc. (DTE US): The owner of Michigan's largest utility agreed to sell a 50 percent stake in U.S. steel and power assets to a unit of General Electric Co. for $805 million, providing additional funds for share buybacks. DTE energy stock was unchanged at $48.22.
Electronics for Imaging Inc. (EFII US): The maker of printing technology said it would demote Chief Operating Officer Joseph Cutts after completing a probe into stock-option grants. Cutts will no longer be head of operations or hold any executive office, the company said. The stock fell 35 cents to $28.22 in regular trading.
Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (LGF US): Shares of the studio, which distributed Michael Moore's latest documentary ``Sicko,'' may reach $15 each on earnings from horror sequels, Barron's reported, citing unidentified analysts. Lions Gate stock fell 2 cents to $11.03.
North Atlanta National Bank (NANB US): The community bank serving small businesses and individuals in the North Fulton community of Alpharetta, Georgia agreed to be bought by South Korea's Shinhan Bank for $23.44 a share, or $29 million. The illiquid stock rose 49 cents to $18.49 on June 28.
Seaspan Corp. (SSW US): Shares of the company, which leases container vessels to shipping companies, may reach $36 each on business from China's two largest shippers, Barron's reported, citing Lazard Capital analyst Urs Dur. Seaspan stock rose 56 cents to $32.18.
Sempra Energy (SRE US): The owner of the largest U.S. natural-gas utility said it agreed to buy the development rights to a wind-power facility in Mexico as part of a foray into renewable energy. The stock rose 30 cents to $59.23 in regular trading.
Sycamore Networks Inc. (SCMR US): The maker of networking software said it plans to cut 46 jobs, or 10 percent of its workforce. The stock rose 4 cents to $4.02 in regular trading.
Theravance Inc. (THRX US) slipped $2, or 6.3 percent, to $30 in extended trading after GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK LN) declined to exercise an option to buy half of Theravance's stock for $1.4 billion under a 2004 agreement.
