Seized fake currency printed in Dubai

The fake currency seized from three men near Nizamuddin railway station was arranged in Pakistan, according to Delhi Police.

The police have even identified a Lahore-based Shahid alias Iqbal Kana as the man who was running this international racket at the behest of the ISI. The fake currency was manufactured in Dubai and later sent to India by Thar Express running between Munnabao and Jodhpur.

Shahid is also an accused in a case in 1996 in which two foreign nationals - a Swiss and an Iranian - were arrested with illegal arms and ammunition, said the police on Tuesday. More than seven lakh live cartridges had been seized from them.

The three men arrested on Monday were identified as Wasim Jameel, Mohammed Muslim and Mohammed Nayeem. The police received a tip-off on Monday evening that Jameel had been asked by Shahid to collect the consignment from Nayeem outside Comesum restaurant near Nizamuddin railway station. Nayeem had arrived Delhi with the fake currency from Jodhpur on Monday morning.

Jameel later revealed that he is from Hapur and that seven years back he had come in contact with one Shahbaj, who belongs to Pakistan. Shahbaj used to export clothes to India. He introduced Jameel to Shafiq, also a resident of Hapur, who dealt in fake currency. In 2005, Shafiq shifted to Kathmandu and called Jameel there.

"It was here that Shafiq introduced him to Shahid or Iqbal Kana. Shafiq told him that Shahid was the main supplier of fake currency and that he worked for the ISI. Shahid belongs to Muzaffarnagar," said deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Alok Kumar.

Jameel roped in his relatives Nayeem and Muslim for circulating fake currency. One of his aides, Shan Mohammed, was arrested in January this year for the same offence from IGI Airport. He was caught with fake currency to the tune of Rs 10 lakh. The security staff at the airport found that he had concealed the notes in a dinner set.

A few weeks back, Jameel sent two women, Mehrunisa and Rashida, to Pakistan for getting more fake currency from there. These two women went to Pakistan by Thar Express, claiming to be suppliers of cosmetic items. When they returned, Jameel sent his cousin Nayeem to Jodhpur to bring the consignment to Delhi.
